Space Allocation and Optimization Committee

Mission Statement

The campus learning environment represents a critical college-owned scarce resource and is subject to allocation, evaluation, and reallocation to meet the overall needs of Helena College, University of Montana. SAOC will provide optimal and sustainable space use to achieve strategic and personnel goals. The committee will ensure space is used efficiently and adaptively to support student success, employee productivity, and long-term institutional viability.

Purpose

SAOC is an advisory committee responsible for ensuring the optimal allocation and efficient use of campus spaces in alignment with the institution's strategic priorities, compliance requirements, and community needs. Space is neither owned by, nor permanently allocated to, occupants, users, programs, or units. Inherent within SAOC is approval authority to make data-informed recommendations for the allocation, reallocation, or repurposing of campus spaces through collaborative decision-making with division and department stakeholders. SAOC will develop, adopt, and publish Utilization Rates and Guidelines for Allocation and Management of the Learning Environment. These will form the basis for achieving equity and scrutiny of space allocation needs. All current allocations will be reviewed initially, providing a holistic examination and baseline.

The committee is planning to meet quarterly on the third Monday of the second month.
