Accounting and Business

We mean Business

The business track emphasizes general business courses to provide students with a broad background for the business environment. The Small Business Entrepreneurship Certificate of Applied Science features courses in entrepreneurship, accounting, computer applications, and general education. The Associate of Applied Science – Small Business Management Technology degree further offers management, marketing, ethics, and finance courses. The two options will provide educational opportunities for students to develop the necessary skills to manage their own business.

 Accounting

Students interested in accounting can earn a Certificate of Applied Science (CAS) in Bookkeeping and/or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Accounting Technology. The CAS in Bookkeeping is a one-year, 30 credit program that prepares students for entry-level positions as accounting technicians and bookkeepers. The CAS is the first two semesters of the AAS in Accounting Technology, so students interested in continuing and earning their Associates Degree can complete another 30 credits and earn this two-year degree. The AAS degree incorporates more accounting content including Principles of Managerial Accounting, Principles of Financial Accounting, Fundamentals of Governmental and Not-For-Profit Accounting, and Income Tax Fundamentals, further preparing students for careers in the accounting field. Students interested in continuing their education after completion of an AAS in Accounting Technology can continue with the Business/Accounting Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) program at Montana Tech while in Helena.

Students interested in transfer to a business program can complete the Associate of Science (AS) Transfer to Montana State University or University of Montana. This two-year Associates Degree prepares students to transfer into a business program at either university. The AS degree combines the General Education courses needed to compete the General Education Core and Business courses preparing them for transfer.
